V8 Thunder Winter 2011 Season Launch The UK based V8Thunder racing league proudly presents it Winter 2011 season, featuring the 9th running of it’s flagship NR2003 Trophy Series alongside an expanded Indycar Series. The respective series will be split into 6 weeks of racing either side of Christmas.
Returning for it’s ninth season, with it’s large fields V8 Thunder Trophy Series will once again be the place to be on Thursday nights. This winter we are moving to the BullRing NR2003 Sprint Cup Series mod, the updated version of the SS.net COT 1.04 mod we have run for the past few seasons. The 12 race schedule begins 11th November at Daytona International Speedway and will visit places such as Infineon Raceway, Australia’s Calder Thunderdome and Britain’s historic Brooklands Oval, as well as a varied blend of the best short tracks and superspeedways the USA has to offer. Trophy races on Thursday nights open setups with cup physics and hardcore mode (open views), qualifying begins at 20:00 BST UK time (presently 21:00 CET - 15:00 ET).
Following it’s debut as a 6 round series in the summer, the V8Thunder Indycar Series is expanding this winter to a full 12 round season. As well as the overall series champion, we will also crown the Mario Andretti Road Course champion and the A.J. Foyt Oval champion. The series will use the same adapted version of Smiffsden's V8 Indycars mod that gives each driver a six-speed, open wheel beast capable of speeds over 230 mph. The series will run 12 rounds, each round comprising a road course followed by an oval, for 25 races with a triple bill on 10th January 2011. These races are about 100 miles each. The expanded schedule has allowed an eclectic mix of the classic and contemporary Indycar tracks from the last 20 years, including street circuits like St Petersberg and Long Beach, temporary airport tracks at Cleveland and Edmonton, road courses such as Road America and Laguna Seca, as well as the best short tracks and superspeedways for the oval.
The league has decided to sanction the never used Spa-Francochamps and Suzuka road courses for it’s European and Japanese rounds and these should be a lot of fun. In order to provide a level playing field, we are running fixed setups this season with full hardcore mode (fixed cockpit views, no driving aids). The season will run Monday Nights, qualifying begins at 20:00 UK time (21:00 CET - 15:00 ET) and the action commences November 8th with Streets of St Petersberg and Homestead-Miami Speedway.
