train racing wins with me, at least thats interesting, and driver have to plaz as a team, so thats unique.
The skid plates are making a mockery out racing, so thumbs down for that.

Don't think so.
For an imitation of train racing minus the chain, we could have teams of three on a track like Martinsville (or anything that has longer straights and/or tighter turns), and the car in the middle mustn't use the throttle or the brakes. Switch positions every x laps.
Not sure how we'd prevent the pusher or the brake from interfering with other teams' efforts, so maybe it would make more sense to have two teams at opposite sides of the track.
PTA physics might be a good idea as well if that adds any acceleration.

Skid plates, well... using the lowest tyre pressure available and no tyre heat works similarly.
