is there a way (tool, fix, patch) to work around the limited number of tracks (i.e. there's a cap on number of tracks in the list where you would select the track to practice or race on)

no, moving/renaming folders is the only option.

Yea I got three track folders in my main installation, and I clean out tracks occassionally, which are not worth the diskspace or have received updates.
