Hey guys

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this:-

Image

I am experiencing these problems with my display upon start-up, although after a few minutes it clears up. At first I thought it to be some kind of interference, but after some research I now think it may be RAM or videoRAM related, possibly with a cooling issue. My computer doesn't have a case cooling fan, maybe this is it?

Please help me gents, I can't help but think this problem will only worsen.

But 9 minutes after I have fired the system up, it's now running pretty much fine.

It's not constant, gets better as it "warms up".

I think my card is a SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600 PRO ATLANTIS.

Not sure because my brother in law gave it me when he upgraded.

10 minutes - display is perfect.

check to see if the cable is loose, or the card isn't seated properly, or if the fan is on-off-on-off etc.
the usual stuff, with this you're really lucky if the problem isn't the card dying.

I used to get that all the time when coming out of hibernation btw, (saphire 4890's here) and it turned out to be the driver, I don't put the pc into hibernation now, and touch wood, problem solved.

I checked them Ian, tbh I think the card is dying.

Anyone care to suggest a replacement card, which will run iRacing, but reasonably priced, say less than £100?

guessing you've only got AGP then, I'm no expert (Paul Taylor is) but I think this would work:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-Powe ... D-Sub-HDTV £72.71 inc.

Or this:

http://www.svp.co.uk/technology/sapphir ... 01008.html £57.58

I've got an old AGP card, Radeon I think, can send it up to you if you want, it probably won't run NR or iR too well, but it would at least confirm the graphics card as fubar instead of the mobo.

Whatever you get is going to improve performance over the Atlantis.

Cheers Ian, that's grand advice. I'd best check with someone who knows my system that they will fit it properly but at least it's not a million dollars! Unless it's the mofomobo.

those cards are the same spec as the Atlantis, just faster, so they should work fine, to get a card the same spec would probably cost more because of the wierd way the graphics card industry work.

If you've got a PCI-e slot then that's a different story, but afaik mobo's that have AGP don't have PCI-e and vice verca.

Sick of the problems, I have just ordered a Power Color HD 4670 card and should have it within 5 working days.

Then on to iRacing, and beyond!

Installed it this afternoon, swore a lot and got real angry when it wouldn't work, then plugged the 4 pin power into it and installed it and it is working without a problem, touch wood.

Will test it out this evening, if all is good, iRacing will follow.

When i start up rFactor the game behaves like this:

http://www.hederahelix.nl/fastlane/graphic_problem.wmv

Is this a driver or a hardware problem? (Last season i also had problems with NR2k3)
