Hey all,

I'm really hoping someone can help me with an issue that has only cropped up recently on my PC. It has become apparent in both rFactor and iRacing, and I wouldn't be surprised if it also affects NR2003. After a while in-game, my FPS will decrease. Normally in rFactor it runs at about 40-50 and iRacing 30. Yesterday in a race on rFactor it dropped to about 15, whilst in iRacing it dropped to about 20. I'm not used to this and therefore i'm not able to drive as well or as quickly as normal.

Would anyone have any ideas of what's wrong with my PC? I'm getting 4GB ram in the next few days which may help any issue, but for now does anyone have any ideas? :arcade:

A new graphics card helped me out, but I guess that's not an option atm as well as you're getting 4GB of Ram already.

It might be that the fan on your graphics board is full of dust. You can try to clean it.

I had a similar issue. In race07 I had massive fps drops. It was solved by cleaning the fan

At least one problem solved, and now I can clean my fan too as it makes some noices as well lol :P.
Seriously, I don't know a short-term solution for the FPS problem, only upgrade the graphics card helped for me.

run the computer with the cover off for a bit, see if the gpu fan is shutting down after a certain amount of time, same thing happened to me a year or so back, ended up with a CPU fan strapped to the graphics card to cure it short term, never did trace the cause of the fan shutting down but it was that causing a major drop in fps after about 20 mins of running.

But mine isn't dropping after 20 minutes... only after a couple or so on track.

Nah that problem is a pre -exisiting one for you ben. they dont call you the 20 minute shutdown for nothing :P

All you can get of Ben for 20mins only, then its full price for the stuff he couldnt show :D

Well on a serious note, I had problems again in rFactor last night, the FPS was at like 10. I'm not bothering with iRacing until i can find out the problem, might even cancel my subscription for the time being if it carries on.

i think it is a hardware problem. Did you try another graphics card?

Does your motherboard have the "cool and quiet" feature ? If so, switch it off in the BIOS settings. Apparently it throttles the CPU to keep temperatures down.

Well the RAM upgrade has solved my issue on iRacing... rFactor seems to still be a bit of an issue, so that must be a single program problem. =/

But oh well, at least I can try and recover my poor SR/iRating now.

Are you running ATI or nVidia?

There are some nVidia tweaks knocking about that can increase visuals while at the same time maintain FPS.
Picking some changes out of those tweaks might help?

If its ATI.....god knows :wall:
