Paintshop Pro is not that expensive, as graphics programs go. You may be able to find an old version available on ebay.

I use Photoshop (old version 6.0), it works fine for me, but that's expensive, especially for the newer versions.

You could try the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), it's freeware for Unix/Linux, Windows and Mac OSX.

It can deal with layers so should be useable, get it here:- http://www.gimp.org/

:)

Photoshop also has a tendency of being shipped with new pc's from pc world and such places, so check your cd collection, theres a chance you may have an old version lying around!

That would be Potatoshop Elements, if you're lucky. Nothing is bundled with Potatoshop that I know of. Certainly, PaintShopPro is bundled with a few things, but I'm sure the Gimp will be alright anyway.

I managed to make my first two cars using GIMP and am very happy with them. If you do use it though you certainly need to spend some time playing around with it to get used to it, its slightly complicated but once you get the hang of but it is a very good, powerful program. You can get GIMP HERE, you will also need to install the GTK Runtime Environment too (same page).
