PSP is best choice if Photoshop isn't "available" ;)

In my opinion Photoshop is by far the best program for making paint schemes. But if you can't get your hands on it (legally or illegally) I'd say PSP is a pretty good option! :)

The only two things i just don't know how to do is:

Changing colors of the car without losing the shadows on the car. ( i know it has something to do with layers.)
When i want to paint a new car, what template can i use to import into psp7?

When you open a template, you should have multiple layers, imagine them all stacked on top of one another, the base color will be the bottom layer with all the shadows, lights & parts stacked on top, when you save this as a TGA (to import into NR), the layers are merged automatically in the order they are stacked. You should have the layers listed on the right hand side in PSP.

You will probably find the base color is the very bottom layer, to change it just fill it with another color, in photoshop you can fill a layer without affecting the other layers, I'm not sure how PSP works but you might need to turn off the other layers so they are not affected - somebody who uses PSP regularly can probably answer that better.

Making any sense?

This is a native Chevy 2006 template in PSP format, there are lots of others around as well or if you've got a specific PSD template you want to use I'm sure one of us can convert it to PSP for ya. (I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you open a PSD with PSP it doesn't preserve the layers, which might be the reason for the shading problem you encounted).

I have PSP 7.

I think that the fact that i try to import a PSD file into PSP causes the problems i encounter with those layers. What i want to try is to import a template with one color into psp with all the layers.

don't think you'll be able to, the PSD needs to be saved in Photoshop as a PSP file IIRC to preserve the layer structure, got a link to the original psd template?

Pressing 'L' or that icon should bring up the layer palette. This will allow you to see & select the layer you wish.

I was a Paintshop Pro user but then couple of years ago I went to Photoshop 7.0 and now I'm totally lost for Photoshop CS2, covers everything I need.

Here http://jimmykspaintshop.keyconn.net/nr0 ... orial1.htm is a good tutorial for painting cars with PSP7. This is what got me going.
I don't have PSP7 installed anymore so I can't remember if it's there but when it comes to curved lines the pen tool (as in PSP8 and PSP11) is a lot better than bezier curves.

edit: I'm a complete moron and can't copy things properly

edit2: I painted in psp7 for a long time and as long as it's less than 100 layers (iirc) PSP7 will open any psd file ok. Layer groups doesn't work at all though, they just come up as an empty layer in PSP7

Over time I've managed to aquire most of the templates in both Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop format.

Personally I've always pretty much used Photoshop.

Fortunately Photoshop 6.0 works in Vista with no problems. Yay!!!

This is the car i have so far.

One of the problems i have is how to get rid of the dark edges between the hood and the sides. Also the lights doesn't match. Is there a layer with the lines for a CTS truck?

you need to select the correct car make in game, looks like you've got a Ford template there on a Chevy mesh.

And paint in Windows using a software of yours, then you import the paint through the game.
