Let's see what this season is gonna bring. I am not too optimistic.

Ey remember when I did that Clint Bowyer commercial a few years ago that went somewhat viral then.
I took the vid down later and have regretted doing so a little since, but I think someone saved it and put part of it into this video.

One lucky fan has the chance to attend each NASCAR Cup Series event at Dover International Speedway for the next 50 years as part of the Monster Mile's "Golden Tickets" promotion, track officials announced today.

The winner of the "Golden Tickets" contest receives four tickets to each Dover International Speedway NASCAR Cup Series race through the year 2069

:lmao: I'm sorry, I have my doubts NASCAR will be around in ten year the way things are going

Me, me, me, me, me, Mr. teacher! I found another instance of NASCAR not thinking things through.

As I am watching an old NASCAR qualifying from 2007 I realized that NASCAR's new intermediate package introduces draft dependence to qualifying.
Does that mean they'll go back to single car runs?
I mean, it certainly does so at Michigan. Might be wrong though

Soooo, we've seen the Las Vegas test with this new package, what did we all think of it?

My view is that it will close the field up so that the cars are a lot closer but it won't necessarily improve the racing product.

I don't think there is any way to produce edge of the seat action all the way through the races without shortening them

It will be hard to pass around the front positions because of drag and the draft not being effective enough. Back around 15th-20th you might see some side by side racing.

Kyle Busch's comments were interesting and worth taking on board.

No single car runs for qually except Daytona and Talladega

Yeah agreed, it all seems a bit exciting until you look closer, I saw some unedited video and in the first run nobody passed Brad and in the second, nobody passed the leader again, perhaps they need to add the blades to the roof like they did back in 2002, but at the moment the "push" from the pack behind exceeds any advantage gained by the following car once they poke their nose out to overtake.

They need to unstick the cars from the track, increase the engine hp back to what it was, but cut the splitter, floor and side skirts off completely, then the cars will be fast but unstable in the corners, for the past 10 years they've been glued to the track.

These cars are essentially what your dad used to run under the hood just with a modern body bolted on them.

That's what Kyle Busch was saying. You won't be able to pull out and pass the leader, as soon as you fall out of line you'll hit a wall of air and drop back.

They need to make the cars more 'lively' so the driver has more input. That had been one of the issues in recent years, the cars had become too easy to drive, which is why we didn't see as many cautions (how unlike V8  ).

They have gone in the complete opposite direction than they did a few years ago when they lowered the rear spoiler and increased HP in an effort to make the cars more of a challenge to drive have more off throttle time in the corners.

Go back to the GEN4 car spec with the in-cockpit safety improvements. That move to the COT in 2007 was too drastic a change and NASCAR has been chasing their tails since.

Not sure what top speeds they were getting in the test but must be pretty slow to be able to run wide open around Vegas.

There are actually people who are excitied about all this lol
Can't believe how dumb people have become.
They were like 3 seconds slower.
I think they actually gonna have them qualify with these packs as well.
Yeehaw, big ones in qualifying! :)

Oh yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if some drivers actually quit NASCAR over this.

Just imagine how boring this must become for them by now compared to how much fun it used to be.
Today there's caution after caution and restart after restart. Driving these cars at smooth as glass plate tracks isn't all that engaging, rather annoying being in traffic, constantly at the mercy of others, so that is hardly ever fun.
And now theyre locked into packs at around half the dates of the season.
It's like starting with a damaged car in NR2003 every damn race, having to run the whole thing way of pace.
Just picture this at Michigan. :wall:
If I had earned enough money, like Kyle Busch etc, I'd go Indycar racing for a while, maybe come back once NASCAR fixes itself for real.
Though I can understand a reluctance of any driver trading their stock car for an indycar, given that indycar racing is so much more dangerous.

For those who missed it at the time:

If NASCAR is set on ruining the sport entertainment product, they will have to keep the 1.5-mile tracks, reconfigure them like Texas Motor Speedway, make the cars rely on downforce and sideforce as much as possible and couple a restricted 500bhp engine with an energy recovery system that won't work because the cars don't have to slow down much to make the turn, but will overheat because you can charge it only in the draft.

Wouldn't be surprised if NASCAR considers smaller fuel tanks for 2020.

Among Atlanta, Vegas, Auto Club and Texas, which race do you think will be the most popular? I'd say: Auto Club, Atlanta, Vegas, Texas.

Did he actually say, "It's going to be a lot more skill."?
Aside from the improper English, I thought he bashed the package for not requiring much skill anymore.

Atlanta is probably that hardest call to make here. Prolly Auto Club.
The words side, by and side will probably be used by commentators so frequently during that race, that it'll make.
Package will ruin Texas imo. I think Texas were two of the best races last year, mainly because it was hugging the bottom at a nice pace, and that's always awesome.

They misquoted him to turn his comments into praise, fans called them out on it, the post was removed.

Funny that it's the drivers who were advised to "be careful".

Highlights!? Was it one of the shortest videos on YouTube? :lmao:

That was a complete disaster.

I think the weather actually saved NASCAR yesterday by cutting that thing short. If they went back racing there would have been 4 competitive cars left and even without the wreck (which was purely down to the aero package IMHO) it would have been single file until the backstretch on the last lap. It's just impossible to pass with the current rules package unless you get enough (i.e. 7 or 8) to try the low line.

The 500 will be exactly the same high line, single file. The cars have too much downforce and with the cool temps this week at Daytona that's only going to make them stick to the track even more.

A few years ago they had gotten rid of the tandem drafting and brought back pack drafting but now it's evolved into this borefest.

I watched a bit of this after the race last night...

The stands are packed, the cars are moving around, they are racing, swapping the lead, they look a handful to drive.

This is how it should be.

NASCAR have been on a downward spiral since the end of GEN4 and the arrival of the COT really and have never got it back since then.
I understand the COT was introduced in the wake of Dale Sr's death and safety did need to be improved but surely it's possible to have the good safety features and cars that can race.

How can so many presumably smart brains at NASCAR R&D get things so wrong with regards to the racing product?

Then they have alienated a lot of the hardcore fans at the time and messed with the points system too many times.
Also you've had track re-paves that have been disastrous or needless, thinking Bristol, they have totally ruined that place.
There was a craze to add progressive banking everywhere, ok it worked at Homestead but that's a unique track in itself.
Now they are having to resort to tyre dragons and PJ1 just to get the cars to a point they can race side-by-side for a lap or 2.

It's make or break with the GEN7, which is why they have brought it forward, damage limitation really because they know the product won't improve that much over the next 2 years and they are just hoping that not too many more fans switch off. I reserve judgement on the 2019 package until we've seen it, I'm willing to give it a chance but from what I have seen, heard and read it's not going to be that successful.

This guy has some pretty valid points about the clash and plate racing...

I think it's hilarious how they milk these incidents.
They must have replayed this crash about 20 to 30 times.

Oh and I think if you count the one from practice, it's actually the second big one or multicar accident to use a more universal term.
By the time the Duel, the Truck race, the Xfinitiy race and the Cup race are in the books, we will have around 40 to 60 wrecked racecars to account for and ratings will still be down year over year.

And even then NASCAR will still not learn that if they just gave us real racing with minimum cautions and no stages, people would tune in again.

P.S.:
Oh my god, that guy in the beginning of that video who said "JJ should be f****n shot."
What a low life is that? First of all, he swears like a bum in front of children? And get this worked up of some meaningless plate crash.
Fans like this really make me feel bad for watching NASCAR. It's a caveman. Not JJ should be shot, this guy should.

I like David Lang, he often gets scoops before the proper media, and when he doesn't, he generally stays away from bells and whistles "drama" and just presents the facts as they are, he hit the nail on the head there.

Regarding the guy at the start of that video, as my dad once said, if you take the average intelligence of humanity as a base point, that'll be a fairly poor example in whatever point you're trying to make, but remember 50% are worse than that:

The Daytona wreckweeks are finally over.
Best moment was at the end.
DW:"What a day for JD Gibbs..."
:lmao:

I don't know maybe it's just me, but I don't really get the vibe from the 500, and haven't in years. Everyone at the track or on the broadcasts acts like it's this magical moment we are witnessing, like there's something special about the 500, that no other race has.
But really, it's no different from all the other plate races, and whether you win is largely luck.

Well, whatever.
Could anyone keep count of the wrecked cars? I kinda lost count during the truck race

#10 and #17 on row 1 at Atlanta. Maybe a little skill castration with this package?

Nothing new I guess
