Expectations for 2018 are certainly not too high, at least from my side. Will there be last minute changes to NASCAR rules once again? Can Kyle Busch keep up his momentum and will Martin Truex be able to maintain his dominant performance?
What other developments are on the horizon?

All this and more coming up right here.

Well the only off season stuff I know:

Monster has not yet taken up the option on their title sponsorship for 2019-2020 season, the deadline for taking up the option expired months ago and they keep asking NASCAR for an extension before deciding, now it's moved to April this year.

Danica and Rickkkkki have split up, so expect Rickkkkki to make huge strides in his results this year as a result.

Said Danica still doesn't have a drive for either of the 500's, but persistent rumors are Ganassi.

and saving the best till last, Richard Childress knows how to use a gun, so don't enter his house uninvited.

Charlotte makes another change to their Roval layout, which now skips the last loop in the oval T1 infield.

Patrick has a cockpit for Daytona. (Premium Motorsports, #7 GoDaddy Chevy)

Hope it works out, the previous layout looked too tight and twisty, but more space to throw a lunge now. Can't wait to run this track ourselves :)

At least they're somewhat listening to the fans wanting a road course in the playoffs

Nonono, theyre not listening to the fans. This is an act of desperation or smoke and mirrors.
Charlotte Motor Speedway is not the problem and never was. NASCAR is the problem.
They're supposed to organize auto races, but now they refuse to do so.

They put on the best racing the world had ever seen back in the 1990's. Everything was perfect. They could bring it back any time they wanted, but they won't, because they do not give a f**k.

Their problem is the engineers are addicted to downforce and NASCAR is addicted to speed, if they made them cut the skirts off and removed those oil pan plates and let air under the cars the racing would be slower but would improve no end, but the engineers don't want that and NASCAR don't want the speeds to reduce because then their cars would look slow and boring, chicken and egg situation.

Indeed. However, it's not like they would be slow.
At least back then cars looked like they were on the edge. Today they look like theyre glued to the track, so it's fast and boring instead of "slow" and exciting.
Guess they just don't get it.

They would never listen to the hardcore fan tho, they want to attract in new young fans who just want to see fast cars have massive crashes. Hence the stages, yellows breed yellows and there are more crashes to keep the kiddies happy for a short time before they change channel

Well, that's not how you draw in new fans I think, but who knows really how it's done?
And to be honest, even I have a hard time putting into words what is so appealing to me about auto racing. Occasionally I think about it for brief moments, only to stop myself from making any real attempt at it. It would probably be much too revealing.
I know one thing however, cautions and retarts don't help anyone.
And there are different types of wrecks as well. There are those that are part of the race, that are a result of the race happening and developing, or a result of what different drivers and cars are going through over the course of the race. And then there are those that come from idiotic policing of the race or hunting the field through bottlenecks (initial start excluded). No one wants to see those.

On that note, apparently the skirts wont flare this year

40 cars for 40 starting spots.

And look at the list. All the giants flushed out like crusty old turds :(

NASCAR better does something to reduce the cost of fielding a car in the cup series or the cup series will soon be replaced by a bunch of necks racing used cars on abandonded parking lots.

Why dont they just scrap the Clash? I mean it a nice little warm up for everyone, but you also have the duels, so what the hell.

The new chevys look quite alright I guess, much more appealing and pleasant to look at. Honestly, really looking forward to Martinsville, knock the new outta these cages and stuff.

What I didnt miss during the off season, these damn commercials. They are so unbearable, it borders on torture.

Only NASCAR manages to schedule a race for 300 miles at a track where you can go full throttle all the way around and turn in into a three hour parade of yellow after yellow with an average speed of 90.

The saddest thing is that everone seems to have normalized this. At least people like Tony Stewart used to call this what it is.
And NR2003 reminds me on a regular basis what a race should be like, so I won't forget that.

I'd say get rid the plates. Tracks and cars are safe enough.

No, who?

Lots of crunching going on, but at least the race was greener than Saturday's.

Austin Dillon certainly did everything right. Definitely a winner I can feel good about.

Man, Daytona's walls took a lot of hits this week.

Time for Atlanta, where things get interesting. :flag:
