Alright, guess it's time for another year.

And we are starting off with new all-time lows.

I guess I can live with chase formats in trucks and xFinity, you know, at least it displays some consistency.

But that caution clock definitely takes the cake. I don't even know what to say to this.
It's like a giant middle finger in the face of every NASCAR fan.

I will simply repeat Nathan Fillion's (alleged) words when the new season Castle storyline was first explained to him.....

What the f**k are you smoking?

NASCAR has gone off the end of the stupidity pier with this 'caution' clock, cos all the drivers will do is follow each other around until the last one.

Caution clock is complicated, but random cautions isn't (somebody already made a program to do it)).

I don't really want to go down that rabbit hole though

I wonder if Mr France has been chatting with Bernie, the ideas he's coming up with! Don't understand all these artificial gimmicks, let racing to develop organically! For all we know we might have an epic race going on then the bloody caution comes out!

wait a minute. For a moment I thought I heard that a 2015 xfinity chaser isn't legit for 2016 chase. That can't be right, silly me..

I think cup series chase driver's aren't allowed to race in the xFinity Homestead race or something like that. Probably just so Kyle Busch and such do not steal the win in the Xfinity finale.

It's all so arbitrary and ridiculous. I wonder how they determined the caution clock time of 20 minutes. Probably just pulled it outta their ass

I think they looked at the stats, according to what I saw posted elsewhere during 2015 the Trucks only exceeded a 20 minute green flag run 3 times.

Well, I assume there's gonna be less debris cautions now, so not much will change, except the pretense for throwing the yellow.
The big question is probably, are they going to roll this out into the cup series as well at some point?
I certainly hope not, and I hope they'll dispose of this idiotic rule in trucks as well.

You could of course argue, that until NASCAR stops throwing cautions for bull debris and other ridiculous reasons solely for the purpose of interrupting the race when they feel like it, it doesn't really matter what they do. Until they stop that, the entire product remains ruined.

It's really depressing, up is down and down is up in today's world

The caution clock was the idea of a Cup driver....

man taht plate package is kinda lame, p1 car is impossible to pass, and somehow junior always ends up there and wins all the time, so NASCAR will probably never touch it lol.
well, whatever I guess

I did LOL at that too, I had the headphones on as the Mrs was watching something else and i sprayed her with tea, then had to explain, he didn't just say it once though, it was like multiple times over and over.

That was a pretty good race, but they've still got the problem that the lead car has all the advantage, the truck race was much better because the leader only got any benefit if somebody actually bumped them, with the cup and xfinity cars the second place car only has to get within 2 meters of the leader and the leader picks up 5 mph.

Stick a blade on the roof and they may cure that.
I wonder if Danica needed new nickers after that ride?

believe it or not but I "already" watched the race 8) (I don't think I can keep up the pace though.. )

Yes, "Dee Double-U" is King.

I'm less concerned about the leader having it supposedly "easy" but the upper lane getting more and more disadvantaged got me worried. Just 1 lane working in Tona really sucks.
Wasn't there a phase a couple of years ago, when we had the same situation (iirc)?
Actually - subjectively - for this very reaason, imho this was one of the less exciting races of the last couple of years. Aside of the finish ofc.

Smaller Cup field not a surprise: All eyes will be on the guys up front during Sunday's NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It might be worth taking a look at who's running toward the back. Or, more accurately, who isn't there. Only 39 cars showed up for the second race of the Sprint Cup season, the lowest number of entries in more than two decades. It marks just the third time since NASCAR standardized the fields in 1998 that there aren't enough cars to fill every available slot. While the reduced numbers won't affect front-runners such as Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin - after all, we're talking about low-budget drivers who probably would've been lapped early in the race - it does drive home the end of an era. Farewell to those penny-pinching teams that merely want to go fast enough in qualifying to hang around through the weekend. This season, NASCAR will be hard-pressed to get the new maximum - 40 cars - on the track each week. By the end of the year, it wouldn't be surprising to see as few as 37.

Good job, NASCAR.

wow. the low down-force package sure was fun to watch - at least in qualifying. Now we have to see how it pans out for the races.
Cars slipping'n'sliding. I love it.
equally impressive that nobody wrecked and even more, how good teams were able to improve the cars. Already on the 2nd run, the cars looked much more stable. good job there.

Has something changed in NASCAR? Has there been a power shift behind the scenes or something like that?
I mean, that new overtime line rule seems kind of inconsistent with pretty much anything NASCAR has done since 2003. It will most likely restrict GWC attempts to one attempt in probably 95% of the cases.
And there also the long green flag run at the beginning of the Atlanta race, which was a pleasant surprise. It was a pretty nice race, like Junior said after the race.
I'm a little confused to be honest
