F1 fans complain about the sound and the new owners just go, "alright, here's our new music theme!"

I can't handle this.

Also the stupid car sound whenever they do a vt transition that sounds like an old V8, that got annoying after 15 minutes for me.

Won't be watching much of this F1 this year, cars look crap, Merc walking it, TV production gone nuts, stupid penalties (see Ricardo).

No thanks, give me Indycar any day.

By now, they've replaced the "driver in danger" message displayed in knock-out qualifying by "driver at risk".
That's... slightly better.

On an unrelated note: Those damn bots.
It's like watching two WR replays in Trackmania or GPL, with the physics of GP4.

The more downforce the cars have and the smoother the ride, the harder it becomes to make a difference as a driver, but the easier it becomes to reach 99%.
... I think.

It is highly unlikely we will ever seen the Indycar series back at Surfer's paradise.
But if you can't bring the series down under, why not bring surfer's to the homeland?
That's what I thought after the double header at Detroit, a track which in my opinion has much more potential than is currently utilized. The layout way more boring than it has to be.

So here is my suggestion, which I am gonna send to indycar in the hope that they consider spicing this thing up a bit.

I like it.

Here's my take on it:

Image

Runs anti-clockwise as well. The start zone is moved; pit road remains where it has always been.

T1 - is tightened to make the pit entry safer and to aid overtaking, but it mustn't be too slow or T3 won't be a challenge. Some of the paddock space and a small patch of grass needs to be sacrificed.
T2 - stays the same.
T3 - A fairly fast chicane. Three trees need to be removed.
T4 + T5 - stay the same. Hopefully, the approach to T4 isn't too fast.
After T5: 1.3km of full throttle. Admittedly, curved high-speed sections may be a bad idea from a safety standpoint.
T6 - your typical "overtake-here" 90 degree corner. The run-off can do with getting rid of some of the grass.
T7 + T8 - stay the same.
T9 - opened up to reduce concertina. Higher exit speed may also make T1's bumpy braking zone harder to handle. A tiny chunk of grass has to go.

Nice one as well. I would say though that the long straightaway does so need a chicane.
I'd also say generally that they may wanna consider repaving some section with new asphalt here and there, as the track seems a tad too bumpy imo, but I forgot it when I sent my proposal to Indycar.
Track is defo due for some enhancements here and there, especially since it is such a good location to run a race at. I can see Indy running there till the end of time, even though Detroit is not the city it used to be and it is more of a depressed area to run a race at.
Well, just one more reason to enhance that track to draw some more interest, so that potential spectators will say, "I gotta go see that race, now that the track is awesome. I will drive the 500 miles to get there."
We'll see I guess.

Oh yeah, mayebe a hairpin in turn 7 would be nice as well.

Bumps aren't the worst thing, I'd say. They trigger mistakes and can give a better impression of the speed in onboard shots.
If the drivers say they don't like them, sure, repave.

Not sure they went back to Portland because I reasoned them into with one of my famous emails a while back 8)

But if so, I sure am glad about it, because that was a great race. Track even still has that same mid nineties look.
Love that fast left right section at the end of the backstretch, just awesome how they hammered through there.
This track is just great. It's fast, it's short, and has a nice flow.

Oh yeah, Dixon must have the golden horseshoe :lmao:

lets go-

As i sad: sim racing is harder than real driving.

That guy Bonito(and some ohters) proved it.

So Carsten have a big chance.

Well, I find that hard to believe.
I'm not even sure I'd have the guts to go 200 mph in an indycar or something.
Fastest I ever drove in a car was 200 kph, a bit over maybe.

I'd be more confident about my stock car racing skills though. Having a cage built around me might boost my confidence lol

If you ignore the physical side of it, with all other things being equal sim is harder because there is only one input other than sound, visual stimulation from the screen. Inside the car there are tons of different kind of feedback you can drive from, it's why sidecar passengers don't need to look where they are going to know where they are on a circuit, they feel it.

It's why I have such trouble with cockpit view, because your vision does not act that way inside a car, your brain filters out movement unlike NR that insets fake inertia to the view, you simply don't see movement, try walking downstairs with an action cam or go pro in your mouth, then play that back and see how much rougher it is in comparison to what you saw with your own eyes, your brain is the best steadicam in the world.

It's also the reason why proper drivers make such crap sim racers for the most part.

Don't swallow the cam though lol

If something is easy to do and everyone does it, it becomes hard to be competitive.
I'd like to think that you can get a better feel for the car and the tyres in real life, but the conditions also change more.
Personally, if I got into a real car, I'd probably get confused as to why it doesn't have the same physics inaccuracies as the sims, or what the heck I'm supposed to do with that much steering rotation. (I have a driver's licence, I swear. ^^ )

That's flattering for both you and me. I say we should make it a two-car team because a driving god like me obviously can drive two cars at once  /s

The only point of reference for me is Norbert Michelisz, and even that comparison is stretching it.
Anyway, we have roughly the same GPLRank handicap. He got there in 1-2 years, it took me 5 or so. Just saying.
And what even would that mean? The closest to GPL would be something like an overpowered Caterham/Lotus Seven. Doesn't say a lot about touring cars or even single seaters.
I can tell you I'm not very good with downforce cars. Way too quick for my reflexes, at least until I get some memory from wrecking 5 times, provided I can remember the wreck. And then the track changes. Aaaand we're out of backup cars. And out of backup Carstens.

Oh, and my racing career died on the day my mother put her fears before my interests. Pretty much Day 1 and it took a while until I was allowed to go around in those sluggish go karts every now and then. Then again, I had no intentions to start as late as Damon Hill or Bruno Senna and won't be now. If I had thought it was supposed to happen, it would have.

A guy I raced with in EOLC was 7 tenths or more than a second slower than me, depending on the track. I got to his home karting track where his Formula Student team that he was part of used to test and in rental karts he was quicker than me. To be fair, I was learning the layout, karts don't have equal power, and all that, but still.
I also remember that I loved it when my (now closed) hometown's indoor track had an oil spillage. Finally the throttle did something!
I don't have much physical strength or endurance to begin with, so being able to steer with the throttle helps a lot. :D

Has anyone ever noticed I often use less of the track and stay well off the wall on exits? I'm actually surprised I can do Indy and Rockingham (UK) that well in NR2003. I'd have to work on that a lot in real life.
I read much of Ross Bentley's Speed Secrets series around 2008 when I was learning to heel'n'toe and one of his drivers he was coaching struggled with getting close to the wall. So, at least I'd know where to start (reading).

That might explain why Greger Huttu was so terrible, he was expecting force feedback to be a bit different to what he got
