SRD AJI reveal new paint schemes and sponsors for 2009 mini series.

--Corby, England.

SRD AJI today revealed the sponsors and colours that the #4 and #77 teams will run in the 2009 Mini-season.

#4 Fly Emirates Arsenal Chevrolet Impala SS
Image
The #4 will be driven by V8 Thunder Lites Champion David Bischoff. Bischoff will be a rookie in the Trophy series next year, and hopes to gain some valuable experience in the Cup cars before the points racing begins in 2010.
"I didn't get to run my Arsenal Truck last season as much as I'd have liked, so when they came forward to sponsor the Car I jumped at the chance. The paint scheme is really cool, I have to say cheeeearse to Ian Smiff for the render, it's great!" - David Bischoff.

#77 Slurm Impala SS
Image
The #77 will be driven by 3-time V8 Thunder Rookie Champ Andrew Jones. Jones will also be making his first appearance in Trophy next season, but has experience at Cup level in the ICS.
"This will be a really tough season in 2010, trying to complete a Grand Slam of Rookie titles against what must be one of the toughest rookie classes ever! Before that we are gonna have some fun, Slurm have come on board as main sponsor for the 4 race mini season, I was told my pit crew will this year be exclusively Grunka Lunkas, but all they would tell me is that I "shouldn't ask about the secret ingredient! Thanks to Ian Smiff for his help with today's launch; he has given us an air of professionalism that our previous releases have maybe lacked."

Paparazzi were again in the vicinity of the media day, some of their better pictures follow (with none of them featuring Bisch allegedly punching a photographer  )

SRD AJI sign Mike Cooper

Mike Cooper will join SRD AJI for the Winter 2010 season. Signing from Whirlwind Racing, Mike will drive the #24 for SRD AJI. Mike's career at V8 Thunder includes 3 poles, 5 wins, 47 top 5's and 107 top 10's from 168 race starts. Last season, Mike had a career year in Lites, finishing all 36 races, winning 4 races and leading 107 laps with 27 top 5 finishes, leading to a 2nd place finish in the championship standings. SRD AJI would like to welcome Mike Cooper to the SRD team, he will bring consistency to a team that has lacked that at times.

The reason is because at one point we had a team in an Australian run rfactor series, plus we have drivers from all nationality. They are not all British.

Breaking news - Andrew Jones to leave SRD
Details are sketchy at the moment, but it seems that Andrew Jones will part company with SRD, unmerging his AJI team. Rumour has it the spilt may be due to issues surrounding just how great Casey Mears actually is.

More to follow...

AJI separates from SRD; becomes single-car Ford team

Andrew Jones has taken the decision to end the merger of his Andrew Jones Inc (AJI) team with SRD International. The split will result in a single-car entry by AJI, fielding the #77 Ford Fusion for team founder Andrew Jones in the V8Thunder Trophy Series. The other drivers who were previously with SRD-AJI will presumably become full-time members of SRD, in one of it's other divisions (SRD International, SRD Speedworx etc.)

"I think the time is right to un-merge the teams; AJI was always intended to be a single car team and in fairness, despite all the resources within SRD, running 4 cars was probably a bit much. The plan was always to return to Ford when the economy picked up; well signs are that it's recovering, plus the WTR Fords ran really well last season and that was all the encouragement I needed. I brought the sponsors with me that were on the #77 for the last few seasons, LV= and Unite have been great, Cadburys have some issues at the moment but I expect they will return and we are talking to a major player about an alternate sponsorship scheme for the summer.

"I hate to leave my team-mates behind; I feel that the AJI original 3amigos of myself, Junior and Bisch have grown together in this league. However, I don't want to be the one holding Bisch back. He is clearly ready to have a shot alongside Jack, CJ and Mathieu in the SRDI team. He deserves the chance to win a team championship which, despite adding Mr Consistency Mike Cooper to the team last season, we were never going to achieve. Junior, what can I say about my boy? I guess that if he was running a full schedule then I'd have stayed at SRD, but he's busy discovering that there's more to life than waking up at 5am to race against Poms.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved at SRD for all the help, team spiritedness and good feeling that underlies everything they do. You guys have been the best team-mates I could wish for. I'm thinking that you'll still be the guys I'll be looking to hook up with on the SuperSpeedways. But now the time has come to go it alone. This independence will also help me in my role as Series Director."

The team presented the new #77 LV= Unite Ford Fusion that will be raced by Andrew Jones in V8Thunder Trophy Series Summer 2010 and MiniSeason2.
