I've been using the same truck/filename for the last 2 seasons and yet some fellow racers don't have it because they cleaned out their carfiles between seasons

Also some of you have deleted the stock ingame cars

Why?

I understand that there will be occasional formatting of hard drives and game reinstalls, I did that myself last month

However I had 400 carfiles in my cts folder and over 200 in each of cup and gns on an install that was 20 months old and I'm not aware that this quantity of carfiles was causing any issues

Jacques

brief summary
cup 670+ carfiles (1998, 2000-2007 and some others)
gns 550+ carfiles (97', 98' 03'-07 and some others)
cts 560+ carfiles (03'-07' and a lot of others)
leaguecars are included in others

sometimes some purging is needed :P

I just delete the cars that I don't need anymore in any of my current seasons, either online or offline.

Just helps keeping the overview in the different car folders and to avoid letting them grow out of control.

I'm just someone who doesn't like obsolete data, that's all.

Isn't it stated in the guidelines of V8T that you have to submit your car over and over again at the beginning of each season ? This is being set up just for that reason I think, to allow people to have a fresh start all over again. So I only have these from the actual seasons in my folders and that probably explains why I don't see all the cars (yours is one of them Jacques)

I backup the default cars folder and replace the cars folder at the start of every season (effectively removing all non default cars). I see no reason to keep old car files, they only take up space. Plus they will have an effect, albeit marginal, on hard drive read speed when playing the game as the disk head has to travel across a longer distance to access data (Think of it like a book - you want to read a specific ten pages in a book. Which is quicker, finding them in a book with 100 pages or a book with 10000 pages?).

I also only keep race replays till the race analysis, any I want to keep I move to a separate partition. I do the same with the 'Lessons' folder contents. And before a race I run JKDefrag's sort by name function, meaning all the NR2003 files are directly next to each other (and alphabetised, also good for disc access times).

Jacques, when we collected car files for this season I asked if anyone was running the same car as last season...then I'd have included those cars in the initial zips again. That way everyone would have had all the starting cars regardless of whether they purged their car files.

I have the orig cars backed up and then the cars from prior seasons zipped up in seperate folders so that only the current cars are in use.
Then if someone has lost an old car i may have it kicking around in the archive somewhere.

I get rid of any default cars with the mods if we are racing them. I only keep the current season's ones at that.
